Remedios Rapoport - This year’s Art that Matters to the Planet exhibition takes its theme from Wild America, the chronicle of a 100-day, 30,000-mile journey undertaken by Roger Tory Peterson and his British counterpart, James Fisher. RTPI has invited artists from throughout the world to revisit this seminal work of exploration and discovery. This exhibition will explore the relationship between place and identity and depict the breadth and depth of American land and its histories. 2025 marks the 70th anniversary of the publication of Wild America, a classic in environmental literature and art. It has inspired generations of artists, conservationists, and birders, including Kenn Kaufman, who is the guest juror for the exhibition. As a boy, Kaufman was strongly influenced by the artwork and writing of Roger Tory Peterson. Wild America inspired Kaufman to pursue birds all over North America while he was still a teenager—an adventure later chronicled in his own classic work of environmental non-fiction, Kingbird Highway. An accomplished writer, artist and leader of international birding tours, Kaufman has authored or co-authored 14 books about birds and nature, including his most recent book, The Birds That Audubon Missed. Exhibition Date: 3/29/25–7/27/25 Link: Art that Matters to the Planet: Wild America

Eric H. Cline - 1177 B.C. tells the story of one of history’s greatest mysteries: what caused the ancient civilizations of the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean to collapse more than three thousand years ago, bringing the Late Bronze Age to an abrupt end? In this vivid and captivating full-color graphic adaptation of the landmark book, author-illustrator Glynnis Fawkes invites us to follow two young friends living in the aftermath of the cataclysm as they unravel why it happened—and reveal important lessons for today’s interconnected and vulnerable world.
Holly White-Gehrt - In the last year, I opened my own non-profit art school, Texas Hill Country Atelier. We teach the fundamentals of painting and drawing. Although I teach a traditional approach that I learned in an Atelier, I'm proud that my Atelier is richly informed with an understanding and deep appreciation for Modern and Postmodern Art. This sets TX HCA apart from other Ateliers, and I have my excellent education at PNCA to thank. Shout out to Anne Johnson, who significantly influenced my art and worldview.

Tara Tamaribuchi - Just closed an exhibit, Groove Bardos, at the Jack Straw Cultural Center in Seattle.
Federico Nessi - Paris-based creative, under his moniker Be My Wife, continues to carve out a striking world of experimental pop and shadowy romanticism with his latest EP ‘To Deliver a Feeling’, released on September 5th, 2025. A project rooted in theatricality, experimentation, and emotional depth, Be My Wife exists at the intersection of introspection and performance. Drawing from goth sensibilities, stream-of-consciousness lyricism, and a fascination with the immersive and the subliminal, Nessi’s work creates a liminal space where post-punk intensity meets pop romanticism, and where music becomes a deeply visual and cinematic experience. Federico Nessi - Under the moniker BE MY WIFE, Nessi returns with his hypnotically disorienting new single and accompanying visual, “Me Cuesta,” from the forthcoming EP, To Deliver a Feeling. Traversing an artistic map that spans from Miami to Buenos Aires and is now firmly anchored in Paris, Nessi cultivates an aesthetic steeped in angular eccentricity and the avant-garde intrigue of post-punk, minimal synth explorations, and nocturnal no-wave sensibilities.

SHOW STATEMENT: Purple Door is pleased to announce Pictures of You: a self-portrait painting exhibition curated by painter and educator Ryan Bubnis. What does it mean to be an artist and image-maker in a time of economic uncertainty, violence, and political chaos? Thirteen Portland-based painters were invited to turn the blade of vision inward, exploring the concept of self through the medium of painting. Artists have long used the genre and format of self-portraiture as a means of documenting themselves, their identities, personal experiences, memories, and stories. Featuring self-portraits by Jeremy Okai Davis, Ty Ennis, Dan Gluibizzi, Emily Kepulis, Colete Martin, V. Maldonado, Dylan Mead, Molly Mendoza, Nia Musiba, Souther Salazar, Nicole Williford, and Emily Wise. The works in Pictures of You examine our evolving relationships with a rapidly changing society, our communities, our city, and the artist's role within it all. These self-portraits serve not as mirrors but as thresholds, where the eye learns to burn, wander, and abandon its own name.
