Janna B. Lopez MFA'21

Recent Alumni Leadership, Innovative Achievement

Janna Lopez is a trailblazing advocate for the power of writing and poetry. She was recently named Creighton University’s inaugural Poet-in-Residence for its globally renowned Medical Humanities program. Janna will bring her revolutionary Poetic Intelligence thought-model to medical faculty and students, across multiple healthcare disciplines, using poetry to foster compassion and reflective thinking in healthcare.

As Santa Fe’s 2023 Poet Laureate Ambassador, Janna made poetry equitable and accessible across classrooms, pueblos, and undeserved communities, while partnering with businesses, tourism entities, and arts organizations to integrate poetry into everyday life. She offered poetry workshops throughout the community and at libraries in response to significant global events, and as a way to confront and bridge difficult social conversations.

A sought-after book coach and writing retreat leader, she's guided hundreds nationwide to start, finish, and fulfill long-held book-writing dreams.

An award-winning writer, Janna’s work spans poetry, fiction, and journalism, with four books to her name and numerous published pieces.
