Jeffrey J. Cain BA’81

Distinguished Alumni Citation, Non Nobis Solum

Dr. Jeffrey Cain is a family physician and clinical professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, a past President of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and past Chair of the Board of the Amputee Coalition.

After leading the effort to pass the nation’s first law requiring insurance coverage for prosthetic arms and legs in Colorado, he was the founding chair of the Amputee Coalition’s Advocacy Committee whose efforts have resulted in the passage of prosthetic insurance laws in 22 states.

A bilateral amputee himself, Cain has competed and taught nationally in adaptive sports. He holds the first gold medal in adaptive slalom snowboarding from the USASA National Snowboarding Championships and introduced the ski-bike as an adaptive device to North America.

Dr. Cain is also the co-founder of the Tar Wars children’s tobacco-free education program that has reached over 10 million children in 50 states and 16 countries.
