Atkinson Graduate School of Management Dean's Corner

A message from Interim Dean Romana Autrey

March 2025

Hello, extended Atkinson family,

As I write this, the weather has grown milder, and the Spring season seems to have begun. With the change of seasons, I’m happy to share the newest tidings from the Atkinson School.

Atkinson continues to settle into our new home in Kaneko. It’s said that every move is an adventure… and ours has been no exception. I am so grateful to our amazing IT and facilities teams for helping get everything up and working. Also, huge kudos to the Atkinson community for their cheerful resilience through it all!

The bust of our school’s namesake, Geo. H. Atkinson, was recently installed in Kaneko’s main classroom hallway, relocated from its former spot on the 2nd-floor landing of the Mudd Building.

In addition, this same Kaneko hallway now also displays five pieces of art created by our very own Early Career/ Career Change MBA students! Each of these paintings was created as part of the final activity in Professor Stuart Read’s second-year Strategic Management course (2015-2019). Our community has enjoyed the art’s prominent new location, where all can enjoy it.

Launch of Healthcare Leadership Certificate Program. To help address a major challenge in healthcare – ensuring that talented professionals promoted into managerial and leadership roles have the necessary skills to succeed – Atkinson has collaborated with successful healthcare organizations across the Pacific Northwest to develop the Healthcare Leadership Certificate Program. The HLCP program is designed to equip healthcare managers and leaders with essential skills that enable them to thrive in their roles.

Curious? Check out the HLCP program website! Here are a few program highlights:

  • This 48-hour, 6-module intensive program covers 2 modules per month over 3 months.
  • Classes will be held on Fridays and Saturdays in either Willamette’s Portland or Salem campus.
  • Willamette University students and alumni are eligible for a 10% discount.
  • Sample of topics covered: Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare, Coaching & Mentoring Employees, Leading Change Effectively, Data Analysis, Lean Management, Digital Health & Cybersecurity… and many more!

Still more 50th anniversary events!  We invite the entire AGSM community to join us on Saturday, May 3rd, for a Grand Opening event during our annual Brownwater weekend.  Keep an eye out for emails promoting this event and providing details on how to register. As always, I hope you can join us!

Best regards,
