Jordan Schott BA'21

Jordan (she/her) lives in Washington D.C., where she is a Legislative Aide for Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR), leading his efforts to remove the slavery exception clause—which allows incarcerated individuals to be subject to slavery—from the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. While still a student at Willamette, Jordan founded Oregonians Against Slavery and Involuntary Servitude (OASIS) alongside fellow WU alumni Niki Kates and Riley Burton, and the men of Uhuru Sasa, an African-American culture club at the Oregon State Penitentiary. After graduation, Jordan served as Director of Legislative Strategy for OASIS. In this role, she successfully shepherded SJR 10—the resolution which paved the way to remove the slavery exception clause from the Oregon State Constitution—through the Oregon Legislature. SJR 10 became statewide Ballot Measure 112, which was ratified by Oregonians in November 2022. Jordan continues to pursue the same change to the U.S. Constitution.
